Fleet Lion 'sirius' about Crimestoppers & London Marathon

He may be running hard and going nowhere in Fleet's Hart Centre on January 14, but Simon Collen's efforts will be boosting Crimestoppers' coffers.

Simon, founding member of the new community services organisation Sirius Lions, is due to be at the shopping centre between 9am and 5pm pounding away on a running machine.

He will be cheered on in his endeavours by fellow Fleet Lions and says he hopes to raise £1500 as well as help his training for the London Marathon.

Simon has been awarded a Crimestoppers allocation for the 26-mile event in April, which is why he needs to raise the money.

He said: "I've been helping with the HYPE discos [in Fleet] over the past three years. They support Crimestoppers initiatives and I've heard of the great results they achieve.

"Crimestoppers is not really a well-known charity but it can do great good. I hope the public will support the fundraiser and I hope that I can complete the 26.2miles."

Simon has only ever run two local Fleet Half Marathons but says he is very determined. He says he's now training three times a week. 

"I am keen that Fleet remains the safest town in the UK and I hope my efforts will help," he added.

Sirius Lions is a new group of young people aged 20 to 45; members of the largest community service organisation in the world and a branch of Fleet Lions. 

During Christmas members delivered more than 50 presents to hospital patients, helped at Fleet Festivities and supported the Fleet Fireworks display, HYPE discos and recent work at Fleet Pond.
