The church is turning green in Fleet from July 9 to 15 for the town's very first Environment & Faith Festival.

Guided walks, park volunteer days and seminars on recycling, reducing carbon footprints, and climate change are among the many free activities planned.

Organisers hope the activities will bring the community together to think about and act on local and global environmental issues.

"Fleet and Church Crookham has some beautiful church buildings, but it's the people who meet inside them that are picking up their spades, putting on their walking boots and installing their water butts," said a spokesperson.

"The churches work together on a variety of community projects, running a local food bank, providing support for those out in the town centre on the weekend and now caring for the environment."

Vicar of Fleet, The Reverand Roy Woodhams, said: "This is a fantastic venture, and a great opportunity for us to put our Christian faith into action.

"We spend a lot of time talking about caring for the environment – in this week we have a chance to do something about it!"

Will Parker, chair of Churches Together in Fleet & Church Crookham, agrees. "The festival contains an  interesting and varied programme that has something for everyone.

"I've been particularly pleased and excited to see how many groups and societies are taking part. It should be a great week!"
