More than 150 school children across Hart took part in a competition to design an eco poster – with winners announced at the weekend.

The 12 winners, runners-up and their parents met at the Hart Centre in Fleet at Saturday lunchtime to receive their certificates from Cllr Jonathan Glen, cabinet leader for environment at Hart.

The winning designs will now be turned into a special eco calendar for next year.

The 12 categories in the competition included extreme weather, water, recycling and endangered animals.

"This is such an important subject to be promoting and is especially heartening when you see our young people getting so interested in it," said Cllr Glen.

"Their action in the future is crucial."

Seven to 11-year-olds from five junior schools entered: Westfields, Church Crookham, Greenfields, Hook and Cranford Park.

Westfields Junior also won 'best school category' for the number and quality of entries received. The school will receive a bench and chairs made from recycled plastic.

Such was the success of the competition - there are plans to run it again next year.

The ceremony coincided with a Green Event in the shopping centre, with

more than 25 stalls showcasing information about

environmental  initiatives.
