The cast of Fleet's Christmas panto Sleeping Beauty is nearly ready for their opening night, on December 16.

Be transported to an enchanted land of fairies, forests and castles by the 60 or so performers – all volunteers from Fleet – who are members of the theatrical arts charity Starburst.

The production will run for three days, until December 18, at the St Nicholas' Theatre.

Shows will be held at 7.30pm on the 16th and 17th, and 4pm on the 18th. There will also be a 2.30pm matinee on the 17th.

Cast member, Adam Cook, 13, said: "Pantomime is such fun to do.  The charity show is my favourite.

"Just seeing those children's smiling faces and knowing I've made someone and their family so happy is very rewarding."

Starburst raises vital funds to buy specialised or bespoke equipment for children with special needs in the Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire borders.

The charity does this by performing two shows annually; one in the summer and a panto at Christmas.

A special performance of each production is also held, free-of-charge, solely for the children the charity supports.

It also boosts funds for the youngsters through technical and costume hire, by holding local events, charity fundraisers, and by attending local fetes and fairs.

Tickets for the panto cost £13 for adults, £10 children, or £42 for a family ticket (based on a family of four), and are available at www.starburst.ticketsource.co.uk or by calling 07011 000782.
