FLEET vs POVERTY!
Hi! RESULTS UK is one of six major charity partners in the Live Below the Line campaign (https://http://tinyurl.com/bmwyl9a) to end global poverty. The Live Below the Line challenge is to live on £1 a day for 5 days for all your food and drink. It is a unique opportunity to get first-hand experience on what it is like to live in poverty and gain real insight. However, the challenge can also be fun - you just have to be creative!
RESULTS UK campaign issue for this year is to ensure that all UK Aid funds for education is inclusive of children with disabilities. There are an estimated 22 million children worldwide who suffer from a disability of some kind. To deny these children an education is to condemn them and their families to a life of grinding poverty. We at RESULTS UK want to end disability discrimination in aid to education. This is a great opportunity because London 2012 will be hosting the Paralympics and we want to make sure that disability is taken into account and its inclusion becomes ingrained in all of the UK's aid policy and practice.
If you are interested in seeing what it is all about, please contact me, Bee, via email (bee.chew@results.org.uk). I am the Regional Coordinator for the Fleet area. Local charities and businesses are welcome to join in our efforts!
Also, if there is enough interest, we can have a informal "get together" at the Wyvern pub in Church Crookham during the Easter break. I will be happy to talk about my own experiences doing the challenge. Below are links to my blog about the challenge and my Live Below The Line profile.
