Hello,
We just bought a house in Fleet. We were very happy to join the community.
But recently, we have been really disappointed. We are moving in a few days , so called the council to see if we could get a parking permit for our street or another one in the neighborhood (the house doesnt have parking). We thought it would be easy to find an arrangement as we are now residents. The answer is NO. No because, our street has parking permit possibilities. And it is not possible to get permit in another street because the address is different . Therefore, we have to do with the extremely parking restriction : we will have to move our cars every 2 hours monday to saturday from 8am to 6pm. My boyfriend is a military, working at night most of the week, he will have to wake up at 8am (went to bed at 6am) to move his car, and do the same every 2 hours. And what about is is away ? Also, we will have to remember to move our cars on saturdays and holidays... !!! We wish the council was more flexible. We understand parking restrictions are necessary in a town, but residents (who do not leave in town center) should be able to park their motor in their neighborhood without any problems.

Madness! That is madness! Are you in the town centre? Has anyone got any suggestions? Perhaps you could 'rent' a parking space from a resident with space? I've heard of that in other places.

Where there is a residents parking scheme every house without off-street parking has an entitlement to a residents parking permit. Please let me have details so I can investigate.

    Hello,

Thank you so much for your comments!
At least, we feel people care about us!

I was very angry when I wrote my 1st comment and just realised i made plenty of mistakes .... Sorry ! (I have one excuse : I am French !!)

I have checked private parking spaces, but its £20 a week for one car, which is too expensive for us.

Mr Parker, have you got an e-mail address where i can writte to you explain the situation and give you our details.

    Thank you again....

To correct my post : THERE IS NO PARKING SCHEME IN OUR STREET as it is a very busy road, which is perfectly understandable. But we expected to have the right to park on the nearest street which is 2 minutes from us and which is quiet. We thought permits were for the area not for the residents of the street only. Indeed, if you look at some roads where parking permits are available, like Wellington Avenue, 90% of the houses have a drive way. It looks like it is not really suitable for the houses like us which are in town and cannot have anywhere to park. It would be great to park on the streets nearby. We wish the council to be more flexible. We strongly believe that ANY residents should be able to have a parking permit.
Mr Parker, it would be great if we could get in touch with you and discuss about it. If you think you could help us we would be very grateful...

Hope to hear from you very soon.

Residents parking schemes are established to reserve an area of on-street parking for the residents of that street. They are defined by law under a Traffic Order to provide for the needs of that street. There is no Traffic Order providing parking for your house (or any other) on Fleet Road. If we were to change the traffic order, there are statutory legal requirements which mean it would take some months and some thousands of pounds of public money to complete the process. This is a legal requirement which is not optional for the Council. I have emailed separately what you need to do if you want the Traffic Order amended.

It appears that you purchased a home in the knowledge that it has no parking but in the hope of access to a residents parking scheme. I cannot comment on your being told that such a scheme was available to you unless you can provide more information on who gave you this advice.

There are however some roads in your vicinity where parking is uncontrolled.

There must be something that can be done to help surely? How about a kind neighbour or nearby resident with a bit of spare driveway renting it to them?
