This year’s Fleet
-
The Congakeyz in action
Carnival is set to offer an irresistible blend of performance, colour
and noise- and a Fleet-based band’s music will be at the very heart
of the weekend.
Congakeyz will be bringing
the noise to this year’s shindig, performing a full-throttle
collection of crowd-pleasing covers to wrap things up on Saturday
night.
Fleet-People caught up
with frontman Winston Eade to gage his response to the forthcoming
gig.
“When they
initially approached us to play, we were really pleased,” he said.
“We always enjoy
playing anyway, and with the numbers of people at the carnival, it’s
a great way to share what we do with everyone. They’ll be a big
stage and a monster sound rig, so the quality should be fantastic.”
Congakeyz is made up
of Winston on vocals, piano and keyboard, Dave Jull on guitars, Gary
Brown on bass and Chris Jull on drums and congas, all of whom are
also session musicians.
The band has been playing
a mixture of corporate events, functions and pub gigs for two years,
and has established solid reputation in the South East.
As a Fleet resident, is
Winston a regular at the carnival?
“I’ve been before, but
this is the first time we’ve played it!
“The main thing about
the Congakeyz live show is that it’s really lively, very energetic
and entertaining. We play the songs people want to hear,” he
continues.
The band’s set on
Saturday night is certainly likely to impress, with covers ranging
across the pop and rock spectrum, touching on everything from Journey
to Prince.
Punters at the carnival
can also expect a taste of Congakeyz’ secret weapon, as the band
mix songs together live on stage to spectacular effect.
“We’re really looking
forward to the evening and hope people will be up for dancing and
singing along,” concludes Winston.
Congakeyz will
perform at the Views after the main procession.
