The Fleet Morris Dancing Society is currently undertaking a special series of performances in the local area to celebrate their 25th Anniversary.

The tour, which commenced on 17th April at the Oxford Folk Festival, is taking place in a variety of local pubs and tea rooms between now and the end of September.

Fleet Morris is aiming to raise funds for Guildford-based children’s charity Chase, which they have supported in the past.

“We have a specific charity each year, and ideally we like to keep it local,” explained aptly-named group member Wendy Morris.

“The tea room dances came about as an alternative to the pub crawls favoured by the men in the group- we needed something a bit more ladylike!”

Since its first performance in 1985, Fleet Morris has performed at numerous venues and events within the community and further afield, including stints at previous Fleet Carnivals.

The group is currently comprised of 18 female dancers and 6 musicians.

“People approach us to get involved for various reasons, often simply for the colour, the music and the fun,” Wendy expanded. “We’d encourage people to come along and watch us this year, as it’s always better when you have a big audience. We also hold open evenings in September that people are more than welcome to attend.”

Fleet Morris will be performing in Odiham tonight. You can view their full events calendar here, or visit their website for more information.
