The main details of this year's Fleet Carnival have been announced by the Fleet and District Carnival Association.

The theme for 2010 will be 'The World Of Sport', with participants and supporters being asked to don their best (and most ridiculous) sporting threads in support of the annual community fixture.

Allan Gibson, vice-president of the Carnival Association, spoke to Fleet-People about his expectations for the upcoming event.

"We're hopeful this will be the best carnival ever," he said. "The motto of the carnival is 'to have fun and raise money for local charities', and we hope the community will give it their full support."

2009's annual celebration was marred by a lack of support during the preparation, though Mr. Gibson stressed that involvement from the community has been stronger this year.

"We've got a mass of support from local people and shops," he explained. "Having said this, we're still appealing for main sponsorship from a business or organisation, and would encourage anyone who would like to help on this front to get in touch."

A series of events will take place in the run up to the carnival, including the Princess Disco on May 8th, where this year's Fleet town Princess will be crowned. The venue is still to be announced.

Taking place over the weekend of July 9-11th, a wide variety of entertainment will be on offer for attendees.

A fairground will be in town in the week leading up to the carnival, and Friday 9th will see the launch of the weekend with a Line Dance at the Harlington Centre at 7.30pm.

Saturday 10th hosts the main event, with the combined adults' and children's procession of floats through the town, starting at 5.30pm at the Views. To wrap up the event on Sunday revellers can expect a full-throttle motoring and cycle show, and potentially a dog show.

I have to disagree with Chris although I would admit it may have not been to everyone's taste.
Aren't carnivals about letting ones hair down which sometimes involves music, even loud music; you could say the Chinese dragon with their drums were loud but there is no way you would want to stop them. Teenagers get a lot of knocks but here we did have some doing something for themselves and genuinely enjoying themselves, let them attend again, even if we have to tell them to turn their music down a touch, but not too much.
I will post a few photos of last year carnival. My only interest is my young grandchildren took part last year.

Did anyone else have a similar experience to Chris last year? Obviously you'd expect a carnival to be pretty noisy, but not deafening in the way described.
Chris, if you want to speak to the carnival organisers about this I'd direct you to their website: http://tinyurl.com/29kcqey

Last years carnival was wrecked by a very loud float paying ghastly music at danngerous decibel levels. When my ears started ringing I walked home as quickly as I could. there wee children on the float so must be against any health and safety issues. I am meant to be helping with Girlguiding display but will not be able unless you can promise no such noise pollution. So unnecessay?? Having workend nights on and off for nights this is a reality for many people if not Hart council workers.
