Living within walking distance we often visit the "Heron". The food and service is usually very good although on sunny days it can get very crowded and inevitably the service deteriorates slightly.
The menu and wine list is good but a leisurely visit to just have a beer or glass of wine sitting by the lake is pleasant, usually a heron will be around fishing on the lake.
One correction the pub is now run by McMullen & Sons, who recently acquired it from Chef and Brewer.
A photo of the pub can be found in the Album Fleet Pubs part 2

The Heron on the Lake is the kind of pub that you'd expect to be impersonal and unmemorable, but in actuality it's a lovely place to visit for a meal with friends or family. By it's location alone the pub is unique; perched on the edge of Fleet Pond it provides a quite stunning view over the expanse of water, and I would imagine they get some really magnificent vistas at sunset.
As mu visit was at lunchtime on a Sunday, I had no such luck, but nonetheless I really enjoyed the visit. The staff were great, very friendly and professional, and best of all was the Sunday roast buffet, which gives punters the choice between a great range of meat and trimmings. As gastropub food goes, this really hit the spot.
All told, the Heron on the Lake somehow manages the seemingly impossible task of being absolutely massive while not feeling like an identikit Wetherspoons, and for that it should be applauded.
A beautiful setting with Fleet Pond as the surrounding landscape with all the local wildlife, this quaint restaurant is hidden away just outside Fleet town centre. The menu and specials offer a vast variety of different cuisines and the food is always gorgeous. It is modestly priced with a really nicely decorated interior and subsequent atmosphere, perfect for either a family or candle lit meal for two. If that isnt enough the porch offers views of the lake, which is perfect for a summer drink. The staff are also very welcoming and further add to this very lovely place. One of the best in the local area.
